I noticed that according to the BBC,
the Queen was due to open the new St Pancras station. This little beauty will come in at a cool £800m, pretty nice for a station really, especially one that was there to start with. I wondered what you could buy with that. Apparently an integrated transport system here: When the council looked like it was about to go ridiculously over-budget for all of the originally suggested tramlines including the lamented Line Three the cost was
£714m. Because that was so unreasonable they were forced into scrapping line three in order to save £200m, even though it would have been £86m cheaper than changing the windows on St Pancras. Now I'm not going to mention crossrail, particularly as we had
a whole post on that little number, but I still find it staggering that no-one seems to grudge more for a London station than you could get a whole transport system for here, where it is desperately needed.
